The photographs, paintings and digital imagery of JC Jaress have been featured in
over 60 exhibitions nationwide since 1996. His work has appeared in magazines,
on the cover of many books, a music CD, and on the label of Longoria Winery’s
1999 and 2000 Blues Cuvee. Jaress served as President and Chairman of the
Board of the Los Angeles Art Association from 2001-02 and continues his support
of the Arts in Los Angeles through his participation at 826LA and InsideOUT
Writers.
Jaress states that his work is grounded in the act of seeing. “Perception,” he
explains, “is the process by which we frame our external world – as a process it
takes place instantaneously, continuously, and with or without our conscious effort.
The image, a photograph for example, is simply a starting point in that process.
The image comes with assumptions; the image has a history of its own and
another that is written by the photographer and yet another that is written by the
viewer. The image has a malleable consciousness, which it can transfer uniquely
and indefinitely. That’s a hell of a process.” Jaress lives and works from his home
at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains in Altadena, CA.
